Business taxes are a big deal. Time to pay up and hire someone to do them for you.

It's not worth your time or energy to figure this out on your own. Plus, if you mess it up, you could be in BIG trouble. Here's what to look for when searching for a tax preparer.

  • Find a CPA you actually like.  Use this site as a resource to find CPA's in your area. You have to be able to stand them. I once had a CPA whose calls I dodged because she was just NOT the vibe. But once I switched to my current CPA, who has charisma & is super open to all my questions, things got way easier. So ask around & get names of CPAs people actually like.
  • Check their qualifications. Ask for a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). The IRS requires this ID number for any paid tax preparers. And make sure they have a CPA, law license or enrolled agent designation. (Not required but having one of these credentials gives them more credibility)
  • Shop around. Compare tax advisor fees. Get quotes from a few different advisors to ensure you're not getting taken advantage of. Also, ask if they have experience filing taxes in the industry you're in.
  • Get an e-filing. Any paid tax preparer who files over 10 filings per year is required to e-file. If they don't e-file, run!
  • Confirm they'll sign on the dotted line. A paid tax preparer is required to sign along side you on your return. Never sign a blank tax form if you paid for the service!
