In a Relationship & Financially Uncertain

If you’re in a relationship & have no idea what’s up with your own money, let alone your money as a couple, don’t worry, I got you.

Your 5 Personalized Action Steps:

  • Understand Your Own Finances: The first step is DEFINITELY figuring out where YOU stand. You can do this with or without your partner (maybe they need to take inventory too) but the point is just to do it. I recommend taking Start Here so you have a complete guide for this step.
  • Set a Money Date: This will be a set monthly time (mine is on the last day of each month) where you two sit down to talk money. At the beginning of this process- I recommend using it to set your roles. Who is more adept at budgeting? Who is better at investing? Handling day to day finances? Play to each other’s strengths and divide your financial responsibilities accordingly.
  • Create a joint budget: Be transparent about your spending habits and financial obligations. Allocate funds for individual discretionary spending while also contributing to joint expenses.
  • Establish financial boundaries: Determine which expenses will be shared and which will remain individual responsibilities. Consider maintaining separate bank accounts while establishing a joint account for shared expenses.
  • Seek professional guidance if needed: If you're unsure about your financial picture as a couple, consult with a financial advisor. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific situation, help you create a financial plan, and address any concerns or questions you may have.
