First of all a pension in 2026 is basically a mythological creature. People talk about them like they used to exist but nobody actually has one. And you are thinking about walking away from yours. That tells me everything I need to know about how bad things actually are. You are not being dramatic. You are at a real breaking point and your body knows it before your spreadsheet does.

Now let us look at your actual numbers because this is where it gets interesting.

$100k in savings. $460k invested. Husband employed. House locked at 2.75% which means you have the mortgage rate that people post about on Reddit like it is a family heirloom. Health insurance covered. Car loan you could eliminate tomorrow. You are not someone thinking about quitting recklessly. You are someone who has quietly built a SOLID financial foundation and you're now asking permission to use it!

So here it is. YOU HAVE PERMISSION!

The whole point of building financial security is that it gives you options when you need them most. This is that moment. You did not save $100k so it could sit in an account while you slowly lose your mind in a sports industry job that has been taking pieces of you for six years.

THAT SAID. The pension is real and I would be doing you a disservice if I did not make you sit with it. Before you do anything find out exactly what you are entitled to if you leave now versus staying another year. Sometimes the vesting cliff is closer than you think. Get that number. Then make the decision.

Here is what I would actually do. Give yourself a real runway with a real deadline. Not an open ended eat pray love situation because that just becomes a new kind of anxiety with better lighting lol. Something like ninety days completely off. No applications. No LinkedIn spiral. No career coach. Just actually decompress and figure out what you want next instead of just escaping what you have now. Then six intentional months going after the right thing instead of everything.

The job market is genuinely brutal right now and one thousand applications for one role is not a you problem. It is a broken system problem. But you cannot job search from a place of total depletion. You are running on fumes and fumes do not write good cover letters.

You built the safety net. It is okay to land in it.

Also the dogs are going to be absolutely insufferable about having you home full time and honestly that might be the most compelling argument of all.
