Can I just say we have had some EPIC sign-offs the last few submissions of DSM- Chanel Dreams, Student Loan Reality is sending me. You are so self aware and that is honestly half the battle.
Also- I am seeing this too! It is actually getting scary out there. My FYP is a literal fever dream of $10k unboxings and Iran oil crisis videos. I think we are all just overstimulated. Right now we are being fed two completely incompatible storylines at the same time: spend like there’s no tomorrow, and panic like tomorrow is doomed. And then you’re expected to make calm, rational financial decisions inside of that? Of course you feel unhinged.
But this isn’t a discipline problem. It’s a setup problem.
When your money isn’t structured, every decision starts to feel like a moral crisis. Should I be responsible? Should I just live my life? Am I behind? Am I doing this wrong? It’s exhausting! And it has nothing to do with your actual intelligence or potential to build wealth. So we remove the emotion by building a system.
First, you automate your life: rent, bills, minimum debt payments. Those get handled without you having to think about them. Second, you automate your future: consistent investing, even if it’s small. Your IRA doesn’t care if you’re in a spiral- it just needs to be funded every month. And then, and only then, you spend what’s left.
That’s your guilt-free money. Your Chanel money. Your “I saw it, I wanted it, I bought it” money. No shame, no overthinking, no TikTok-induced identity crisis.
Most people never set this up because no one ever showed them how. That’s exactly why I wrote Future Rich Person (please pre-order you guys are my besties). It walks you through how to structure your money so you can spend without guilt and actually build wealth at the same time.
Because here’s the truth: if you’re skipping investing to buy the bag, the bag isn’t luxury- it’s a coping mechanism. Real luxury is walking into Chanel knowing your rent is paid, your investments are growing, and your future is handled. That’s a completely different energy.
You don’t have to choose between being stylish and being responsible. You just need to stop letting chaos make your decisions for you. Set up the system, fund your future, then go be chic.
Please report back,
